A STRONG START FOR IDWe RACING’S SAM WILFORD AT SILVERSTONE

The IDWe Racing’s team leave the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike GP2 Championship at Silverstone positive after the weekend.

Following on from Saturday’s podium finish in Race 1 IDWe Racing secured a second strong podium performance from Sam Wilford in the 26 lap Dickies Supersport and GP2 Feature Race. The second place in Sunday’s race puts Sam 2nd in the British GP2 Championship on 40 points for the weekend.

The Feature Race ran in glorious conditions on the afternoon of Easter Sunday in front of a bumper crowd at Silverstone, with Wilford starting 6th on the grid and getting down to good race pace early setting the fastest lap of 56,646 on lap 2. The race for the win came down to the top six riders, who were riding a mixture of supersport and Moto 2 machines all battling for the overall win. At the chequered flag, Sam secured 5th place overall and 2nd in the GP2 class, earning 20 important points for the championship.

Sam Wilford – IDWe Racing Rider  “This was a really strong first round of the season for us, two second-place finishes is a great start but I would have liked to fight for the overall win this weekend! We have learned a lot and improved all the time throughout the weekend. I had a really strong feature race which is a massive confidence boost for me! I can’t wait for Oulton Park in 2 weeks time. It has been a great job by the team all weekend, we have a really strong package with the Kalex Moto2 and we have learned a lot this weekend which we can take to the next round.”

Ian Wilford – IDWe Racing Team Owner  “I am delighted with our performance this weekend, coming to Silverstone with no settings for the new bike, Andy (IDWe Racing’s Crew Chief) and Sam worked all weekend to improve the feeling and performance of the Kalex Moto2 and have fought right from Free Practice 1 in the top 6 which is great to see. The winter testing has really paid off and we take only positives into the next round at Oulton Park.”

It will be a fast turn around for the Kent-based team who will now prepare for the official BSB test this Thursday (25 April) at Oulton Park, before the second round of the championship at the Cheshire circuit on May Bank Holiday weekend 4/5/6 May.
