Our client needed a new Daikin AHU installed in a tight location – within the baggage area and above check-in desks. This unit needed to serve the airport’s main entrance, where comfort is critical.
Before installation, we removed two wall-mounted units from the proposed location. We supplied and installed a Daikin AHU and VRV 5 Heat Pump Condenser Unit to handle supply and return airflows.
Key Tasks for the AHU Installation
Our scope of works covered everything from mechanical to electrical systems. Here’s a breakdown of what we did:
- Removed existing wall-mounted units to clear the space
- Supplied and installed a new Daikin AHU and Heat Pump
- Stripped out high-level ductwork above the check-in area
- Installed blanking plates where needed in the main duct
- Measured, manufactured, and installed new rectangular ductwork
- Connected ducting to existing grills and flexible ducts
- Added new extract ductwork in the carousel area
- Installed actuated fire dampers where ducting passed through walls

Electrical Works and System Integration
We didn’t stop at just the mechanical side. Our engineers also handled all electrical requirements:
- Installed a new TPN Sub Main SWA cable and TPN distribution board
- Added final circuits for the AHU, condenser, dampers, and ancillaries
- Carried out electrical testing to BS7671:2018 standards
- Supplied a NICEIC certificate for all completed electrical work
- Our fully integrated solution included all testing, commissioning, and compliance documentation
Refrigeration and Condensate Management
We used soft 15m refrigeration copper coils to reduce hot works. This decision improved on-site safety and efficiency. Our engineers:
- Pressure tested the system with OFN to detect leaks
- Installed a full R32 refrigerant trim charge, per Daikin specifications
- Connected a new condensate drain facility to the local foul drain
All refrigeration work complied with industry best practice and safety standards.
Commissioning and Final Handover
After completing mechanical and electrical works, we arranged for Daikin engineers to commission the system. The new AHU now supports efficient airflow at London City Airport’s main entrance.
