Podium Start for Wilford at Silverstone

Sam Wilford and the IDWe Racing team lined up for their first race of the British GP2 Championship at Silverstone today under clear blue skies and temperatures well into the 20s.

Saturday’s 18 lap Sprint Race saw Wilford start from 9th place on the 2018 Kalex Moto 2 machine. Sam made a good start from the outside of the 3rd row and made up some places in the early stages of the race. Settling into a good rhythm Sam started to close down on the group in front, setting his fastest laps of the weekend so far at 56.639 around the 1.64 mile National Circuit, which will qualify Sam for the second race on Sunday in 6th place. In the closing stages, Sam pushed for more but had to settle for 6th overall and 2nd in the GP2 class, earning his first podium of the season.

“I am feeling confident after race 1, we have managed to make a step forward in the race and close the gap down to the front. Hopefully tomorrow, with a few small changes, we will have what it takes to fight for the overall victory! The team has worked really hard so far, so it would be great to repay them with a win.”
