London’s festive season officially began on Thursday 5 November 2026, as the world-famous Spirit of Christmas lights illuminated Regent Street and the surrounding neighbourhoods, including St James’s.
It was a truly spectacular evening, with a new twist this year!
Live music, festive entertainment and fireworks brought an incredible atmosphere to the heart of London. The celebrations marked an exciting return to a large-scale Christmas lights switch-on, welcoming crowds to enjoy the festive magic.
A Spectacular Christmas Lights Switch-On
Regent Street became traffic-free for the evening, welcoming crowds to enjoy festive celebrations across three stages. Live bands and Christmas favourites entertained visitors ahead of the much-anticipated countdown.
At 6.30pm, the switch-on button was pressed, bringing the iconic Spirit of Christmas lights to life as Christmas songs filled the air. With fireworks lighting up the sky, the evening marked a spectacular start to London’s Christmas celebrations.
Suspended high above Regent Street and the surrounding neighbourhoods, the magnificent 20 Spirits now sparkle with over 300,000 energy-efficient LEDs, creating one of London’s most recognisable festive displays.
11 Years of Powering Regent Street’s Christmas Lights
For the 11th consecutive year, IDWe Ltd proudly provided the essential electrical power infrastructure behind this world-famous display. Our experienced electrical services engineers worked closely with The Crown Estate and James Glancy Design Ltd to meet the all-important switch-on deadline.
Behind the festive magic, months of planning, testing and carefully managed electrical installations helped ensure everything was ready for the big night. We are incredibly proud to continue playing our part in this iconic Christmas tradition, helping bring festive cheer to London once again.
