What did This Bespoke Handrail Project Involve?
We were appointed to design, manufacture and install bespoke LED handrails for a prestigious commercial development at 10 Spring Gardens, St James’s, London.
The project required far more than a standard handrail installation. Instead, the client needed a solution that combined safety, architectural design and integrated lighting without compromising the building’s appearance.
Our team produced bespoke metal handrails that complemented the surrounding Portland stone while providing reliable support for pedestrians.
At the same time, integrated LED under lighting enhanced visibility and created a premium finish throughout the walkway.

What Challenges did This Bespoke Handrail Project Present?
Every commercial refurbishment brings unique challenges. This project demanded exceptional attention to detail from the outset. First, every handrail section required accurate measurements to achieve a perfect fit across the entire route. Even small variations could affect the finished appearance.
Next, the installation needed concealed fixings to preserve the clean architectural lines. The fixing points also required careful drilling into Portland stone without causing unnecessary damage. In addition, integrated LED lighting increased the complexity of the project. Each section needed space for the lighting while protecting electrical components against moisture and daily use.
Finally, the bronze architectural finish needed to remain consistent across every handrail section. Maintaining this quality required careful manufacturing and strict quality control throughout production.
How did we Design and Manufacture the Bespoke Metal Handrails?
Our engineers began with a detailed site survey to confirm dimensions and review every installation point. Next, we manufactured each handrail from high-quality 316 stainless steel split tube. This material provides excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability, making it ideal for demanding commercial environments.
We TIG welded every fitting to achieve a clean, seamless finish. Furthermore, concealed fixings created a modern appearance while protecting the structural integrity of the installation. Before full production, we supplied mock-up samples featuring mitred, butt and corner joints. These samples allowed the project team to review the design before manufacture continued.
Once approved, every bespoke handrail received a durable nylon powder-coated finish in Omnikote Anodic Bronze. This premium coating complemented the surrounding architecture while providing additional protection against wear. Finally, we integrated linear LED lighting within each handrail section. The concealed lighting delivered an elegant finish without distracting from the overall design.
What did the LED Supply and Installation Include?
Following manufacture, we carefully delivered every handrail section to site. Our installation team positioned each section along the walkway before marking every fixing point. Accurate setting out ensured the finished installation followed the design precisely.
Next, we diamond drilled into the Portland stone before resin fixing each bracket securely into place. After installation, we carefully made good around every fixing using white cement mixed with Portland stone dust. This approach protected the surrounding finish while maintaining the appearance of the existing stonework.
Following the mechanical installation, our engineers connected the integrated LED fittings to the client-installed power supplies and drivers. We then completed comprehensive electrical testing in accordance with BS7671 standards before energising the new lighting system. Finally, we issued NICEIC certification to provide complete confidence that the installation met current electrical regulations.

What’s more, the bespoke handrails now provide safe pedestrian access while enhancing the building’s appearance through integrated architectural lighting.
